The Surgeon General issued the landmark report in
1964 on smoking. This was the first large scale,
nation wide report that urged smokers to quit
because of the harm caused by tobacco use. As the
nation’s Chief Health Officer, the Surgeon General’s
office still is making the same case urging people
to quit.
