E-CHUG is a brief confidential self-assessment
tool, designed to give students personalized feedback about their
alcohol use. The assessment takes about 10 minutes to complete, is
self-guided, and requires no face-to-face contact time with a
counselor or administrator. E-CHUG is sponsored by Boynton Health
Service and University Counseling and Consulting Services.
More about E-CHUG
The feedback provided by E-CHUG, whether used in conjunction with
counseling, or as a stand-alone intervention, includes information
which have been shown to be particularly motivating to college
drinkers:
Quantity and Frequency of
Drinking, Caloric Intake
Amount Consumed and Peak BAC
Norm Comparisons
Amount and Percent of Income
Spent on Alcohol
Tolerance Level
Negative Consequences of
Alcohol Use
Genetic Risk Score
Explanation, Advice, Local
Referral Information
E-CHUG is not foolproof. While the form validates the user's input
to make sure the data can be interpreted, it cannot determine
whether the data is sensible. For example, the form will check to
make sure the user has entered his or her weight--the form cannot be
processed without knowing the user's weight. However, it cannot
prevent a user from reporting that they weigh 800 pounds. That type
of distortion will, of course, skew the results. Individual
researchers will have to accommodate those types of outliers if they
choose to analyze the data.
For More Information
If you have questions about the survey, or are interested in
learning more about confidential services available on campus,
contact Boynton Health Service or University Counseling and
Consulting Services. Services available include assessment,
short-term counseling, referral, and support services concerning the
use and abuse of alcohol and/or other drugs. Staff at both locations
are available to address any questions or concerns about your or
someone else's alcohol or other drug use, and to provide alcohol and
other drug information.
