The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) is a student advisory committee that presents student concerns and suggestions to Boynton Health Service and University administration. SHAC also provides input into the formal development of the Student Services Fee request, approve its final form, and participates in the Student Services Fee hearings. SHAC consists of 20 students representing a variety of student organizations and the at-large student body.

Focus

SHAC monitors and assesses the activities of Boynton Health Service. The members of SHAC provide consultation, advice, and feedback to Boynton Health Service staff on programs and policies.

SHAC monitors and assesses the issues that affect the health of the University of Minnesota community. SHAC advocates for the health of the University of Minnesota community by proposing, developing, and supporting policies and programs that would improve the health of the University community.

SHAC represents the needs, opinions, and ideas of student groups within the University.

Accomplishments

SHAC actively works for the well-being of the University community. Past actions include:

• Recommending extended Boynton Health Service hours
• Bringing opinions regarding alcohol-sponsorship policy to the Vice-Provost;
  
• Evaluating and recommending copayments for mental health services;
  
• Recommending spending capital reserves to connect Boynton by tunnel to Basic Sciences and Coffman Union;
  
• Recommending against performing abortion on campus;
• Developing and presenting of Student ServicesFee request.
