Student Coverage
Students admitted to a degree program who register for six or more credits each semester automatically are charged the University's Student Services Fee. Students who pay the Student Services Fee and have health insurance (sometimes called hospitalization insurance) from any provider receive most services at Boynton Health Service at no additional cost or at reduced cost after the bill has been processed by their insurance provider.

All charges for services received at Boynton first are billed directly to students' health insurance plans. Most charges not covered by the insurance company are covered by the Student Services Fee. For example, students who pay the Student Services Fee and have health insurance incur no additional charge for general medical visits, urgent care visits, annual eye exams, nutrition appointments, and Women's Clinic visits.

The University of Minnesota requires all students who register for six or more credits per semester (or three or more credits during summer term) and are admitted to a degree program to have health insurance. Students who have health insurance record their insurance information when they register for classes. Insurance information is verified by Boynton's Patient Accounting office.

Students admitted to a degree program who lack health insurance may be eligible for the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan. If eligible, they automatically will be enrolled in the Student Health Benefit Plan and charged a nonrefundable semester or summer term coverage fee.
