Most provider visits and procedures, laboratory tests and x-rays (some exclusions apply). Students receive a significant discount on examinations with x-rays in the dental clinic and on massage visits. See a complete list of services covered at no additional cost.

3. When is my coverage effective?

The Student Services Fee coverage goes into effect the same time as the coverage dates (see coverage dates below) for the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan.
Coverage Dates for 2008-09:
Fall semester 2008 August 18, 2008 - January 19, 2009
Spring semester 2009 January 20, 2009 - August 23, 2009
Summer session 2009 May 18, 2009 - August 23, 2009

4. If I register or pay my Student Services Fee before the semester begins, can I see a provider?

The student services fee coverage is effective when the semester or session begins or on the dates listed above. See coverage dates above. You are welcome to see a provider prior to the semester but the Student Services Fee will not cover the visit and you will be responsible for paying for the services provided.

5. If I call while my coverage is in effect and make an appointment for a time after my coverage expires, will the visit be covered?

Unfortunately, services are not covered after the expiration date of your coverage, even if a provider was not available. For more information on dates of coverage, see coverage dates above.

6. Nobody told me when I scheduled the appointment that my coverage was terminated (or that the Student Services Fee does not cover this service). Do I still have to pay?

Appointment schedulers do not always have access to the information needed to verify coverage and are responsible only for scheduling appointments. Patients are responsible for payment of their account and for knowing the limitations of their health coverage. The patient accounting department is happy to answer your questions about Student Service Fee coverage. They can be reached at (612) 624-6985.

7. Will the Student Service Fee cover services provided at the hospital if I’m referred there?

No, the Student Services Fee only covers services provided at Boynton Health Service. If you have health insurance your insurance company may pay for some or all of the services provided at the hospital.

8. Does my spring Student Services Fee cover me through the summer?
Yes, the spring Student Services Fee covers you until August 17, 2008. See coverage dates.

You will be assessed coverage for the summer session in which you are enrolling, if you are taking 3 or more credits per session. We suggest you verify that coverage has been assessed while registering for summer session if that is your intention. Call the Student Benefits Office at 612-624-0627, to verify this. More on summer coverage.

9. If services are covered by Student Services Fee then why do I get a bill from Boynton?

Student Services Fee covers eligible expenses at Boynton Health Service only after a claim has been submitted to your insurance company by the BHS Patient Accounting Department and a response has been received that:
  1. Provides payment directly to us, or explains why a service is not covered and

  2. Verifies that you have coverage in place

The monthly billing statement lets you know the status of your account.

10. Why do I need to know the status of my account if it is ultimately going to be paid by Student Services Fee? What could go wrong?

Payment is due within 45 days from the date the claim is submitted. If the insurance does not respond you will need to contact the insurance company to find out why they have not responded and let BHS know the status of the claim.

In addition, not all services are fully covered by Student Services Fee. See list of covered and non-covered services.

What could go wrong with my student account?

The most common reason a claim is not resolved is:
  1. Accurate insurance information was not provided during the BHS registration process to ensure that the claim goes to the insurance, or

  2. If you have insurance through your parent you may need to show proof of student status before they will process a claim.
