1. Who is eligible for the
University-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan? |
|
The guideline for who is eligible to be enrolled
in the Student Health Benefit Plan is that students be registered
for 6 or more credits (3 credits in summer) in a degree program, and
that credits for which they are registered contribute towards the
total count under the enrollment guidelines for being assessed
mandatory Student Services Fee. |
|
If a student can not show proof of health insurance, the student will be
charged for the Student Health Benefit Plan. Typically these are credits for
day school classes that take place on campus. |

3. What is the enrollment deadline for the
University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan?
|

The Student Health Benefit Plan enrollment
deadlines coincide with the University of Minnesota, Duluth's *registration
deadlines, set by the
Office of the
Registrar for each semester and for summer session.
*For students with registration exceptions, please contact the Student
Health Benefits Office at 1800-232-9017 for instructions.

4. Can I purchase insurance for my
spouse, domestic partner or children?
A covered student may purchase coverage for his or her spouse, registered
same-sex domestic partner, and/or dependent children. Dependents can only be
enrolled when the student initially becomes eligible and is enrolled in the
plan, during the open enrollment period which is the first 30 days of
coverage during Fall semester, or within 31 days of becoming an eligible
dependent.

5. How do I sign up for the
University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan? |
|
Domestic Students only:
|
|
When you register for classes online you will
be instructed to enter the name of your insurance company and policy
number. If you currently have your own health insurance and
don't want to purchase the University-sponsored plan, you must enter
this information. Visit the
UMD registration website for details. |
|
If you do not have
your own insurance, you must purchase the University-sponsored plan.
To do so, simply leave the blanks empty. You will
automatically
be enrolled in the University-sponsored plan and the charges will show up on
your fee statement.
