Academic Health Center (AHC) Student Health Benefit Plan
All Academic Health Center students will be automatically enrolled in the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan (SHBP). This plan provides easy, affordable coverage for the unique needs of AHC students. You can have the plan waived if you are eligible.

  • Early access to immunization services for incoming students registered for fall semester.

Coverage Benefits
There are two levels of benefits under the SHBP plan.
1. Boynton Health Service
When students are paying Student Services Fee and are seen at Boynton, most eligible services are covered at 100 percent.
  • Unlimited preventive care is covered at 100 percent for services obtained at Boynton when a student has paid Student Service Fees.
     
  • Prematriculation immunizations will be covered at 100 percent if they are obtained at Boynton Health Service. Boynton will begin covering and providing immunizations for incoming students providing they pay for the AHC-SHBP for fall semester. If they are not enrolled for the AHC-SHBP they will be billed for immunizations received.
     
  • Pharmacy benefit at Boynton ($1,500 benefit per plan year from the Boynton formulary with co-pays of $12 for generic and $20 for brand-name drugs).
     
  • Dental Benefit at Boynton Health Service. As of September 2007, Boynton Health Service Dental Clinic is your new dental care provider. Exams, x-rays, cleanings will be paid for by the University-sponsored AHC Student Health Benefit Plan when you're seen at Boynton Health Service Dental Clinic.
2. Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) provider network
Services provided when accessing care in this network are covered at 80 percent of eligible expenses. There is a $3,000,000 lifetime maximum coverage benefit limit, with $2,000 out-of-pocket limit per year for students. The new plan will offer the following:
  • Enhanced coverage for preventive care and immunizations (formerly not covered), covered at a benefit level of 80 percent in the BCBS network up to $500 per academic year.
     
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota formulary drug benefit at any participating pharmacy (including Boynton) with:
     
    • $25 co-payment for formulary generic drugs
    • $35 co-payment for formulary brand name drugs
    • No plan year benefit limit
    • No out-of-pocket maximum
