How can I stay out of trouble?

Avoid getting into trouble by being aware of laws and policies on campus, and at the city and state level. Boynton's Alcohol and Legal Consequences page summarizes the laws and policies that students might encounter and gives information on being a responsible host so you can avoid issues with police or other officials.

Do I have a problem with alcohol?

Boynton Health Service offers online and in-person assessments to give students feedback on their alcohol use. Visit the Alcohol Services page for more information about the alcohol assessments, DWI/Alcohol Awareness classes and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in the area.

Alcohol or Other Drug Presentations

Boynton Health Service can also assist you in putting on an alcohol or other drug presentation for your residence hall, Greek house, athletic team or student organization.

University of Minnesota Stats

According to the 2007 College Student Health Survey:

73.3% of University of Minnesota students ages 18-24 report using alcohol in the past 30 days.

The average number of drinks consumed per week by U of M students ages 18-24 is 4.5.

41.6% of University of Minnesota students ages 18-24 report engaging in high-risk drinking (drinking five or more alcoholic drinks in a sitting) in the past two weeks.

Only 54.2% of University of Minnesota students report they would be “very likely” to call 911 if someone “passed out” due to alcohol or other drugs and you could not wake them up.

17.6% of University of Minnesota students report having driven a car while under the influence of alcohol.
