About
Insurance
|
|
1. I'm already covered under my own
or my
parent's
insurance plan. Do I need to purchase the
University-sponsored Health Benefit Plan?
No. As long as you have some form of insurance,
you're set! Just make sure you enter the name of
your insurance company and policy number when you register
for classes each semester so you're not automatically enrolled in the University's Plan.
|
|
|
|
2. I'm trying to decide between the
University-sponsored Health Benefit Plan and my
current health insurance plan. Any advice for comparing the two?
There are lots of things for you to take into
consideration:
-
Is their an upper age limit on your current plan?
Many policies carry an upper age limit for
full-time student dependents.
-
If your permanent residence is outside the Twin
Cities area, would you be allowed under your
current plan to visit a Twin Cities clinic or hospital if you
were sick or injured and needed to be hospitalized? What would that visit cost you?
-
Does your current plan have co-pays or charges for
any non-emergency room services?
-
Do you have a pre-existing condition?
-
How many prescriptions can you fill a year? What is
your co-pay?
-
Does your current plan give you coverage if you
study abroad or take a vacation to another
state or country?

6. Why do I have to pay the student services fee if I
already have insurance?
The fee is distributed to about various student groups on
campus, such as recreation sports, The Minnesota Daily
newspaper, and Boynton. All students who take six
or more credits must pay this fee, and students receive many benefits. At Boynton, your insurance company is first billed for
any services you receive at Boynton, but most
anything not covered by your plan will be covered
by the student services fee.

About
Boynton
|
|
1. Can I come to Boynton if I get sick, even if I
don't purchase the University-sponsored Health
Benefit Plan?
Yes! All students who take six or more credits per
semester pay the student services fee, which gives them many benefits at
Boynton. See the complete list of
covered services. Please note that we will
first bill your insurance company for all visits at Boynton. Most charges not covered by your insurance will be covered by
the Student Services Fee.
|
|
|
|
2. Where is Boynton located?
There are two locations. The main, full-service
location is near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Church
Street, on the Minneapolis campus. The
St. Paul campus clinic is located in Coffey
Hall, on the St. Paul campus.
|
|
|
|
3. Do you have real doctors at the clinic?

clinic. Boynton's licensed staff includes physicians, nurse
practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, dentists,
optometrists, physical and massage therapists, psychologists,
psychiatrists, registered dietitians, and pharmacists. Boynton is one of

Immunization
|
|
1. I forgot to send in my student immunization record.
Can I still register for fall semester?
Yes. New students have a one-semester grace period to turn
in the record. But we strongly encourage you to
turn in the forms as soon as possible, because you are likely to forget as you get into
the hectic pace of fall semester. A hold WILL be placed on your record
for spring semester and you will not be able to register for spring
classes without turning in your immunization record.
|
|
|
|
2. I can't find the immunization record
that you sent. Where can I get another?
Depending on the college that you are in, you may be
subject to different immunization requirements.
If you are a Academic Health Center student, obtain the form
here.
If you are a non-Academic Health Center student, obtain the form
here.
|
|
|
|
3. I graduated from a Minnesota high school this year.
Do I still need to turn in an immunization record?
No. All Minnesota high school students who graduated
in 1997 or later do not have to turn in a record. ALL other students
born after 1956 must turn in a record.t>

Miscellaneous
|
1. What if I want to get involved in a peer education group?
Boynton has many opportunities for students to get involved! Call Dana
at 625-5917 for more info, or visit our web site at
www.bhs.umn.edu/student.
2. What if I need after-hours care?
When Boynton is closed, you'll need to visit the facility specified by
your health insurance plan; these visits are not covered by the health
service fees that you paid under the student services fee. If you've
purchased the U of M Student Health Insurance Plan and you need
emergency or urgent care, you may proceed to Fairview-University
Emergency Room located near the corners of Harvard Street SE and East
River Parkway. If you have a plan other than the U of M Student
Health/Hospitalization Insurance Plan, you will need to contact your
plan to find out if it covers services at Fairview-University Emergency
Room.
3. I needs allergy shots. How do you handle that?
If you pay the student services fee and have some form of health
insurance, you can send the serum to our allergy nurse, who will store
the serum and administer the shots at no additional charge. The serum is
not covered under the student services fee.
4. I take a medication on a regular basis. How do I transfer the
prescription to your pharmacy?
Our full-service pharmacy can handle your requests. Just call them at
624-7655 or visit our web site at www.bhs.umn.edu/services/pharmacy.htm
for more details. If you normally pay a co-pay for each prescription,
that's what you'll pay at our pharmacy. Our pharmacy also has numerous
over-the-counter medications available at reasonable prices.
