SNAP, the Student Network for Abuse Prevention, is a student based group
through Boynton
Health Service that works to educate students in creative and interactive
ways on health issues
regarding alcohol/drug abuse, tobacco, and overall promotion of healthy
behaviors on the University of Minnesota campus.
SNAP is a harm-reduction group, meaning we educate our peers about responsible
and healthy decision-making regarding alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
without advocating a zero-tolerance/no-use policy.
We primarily spread our message in two ways.
- First, we give interactive educational programs to residence halls,
Greek houses, and other organizations, such as the athletic department.
We train SNAP Peer Educators who are interested in leading these
programs and provide all of the materials for a successful event.
- Second, we coordinate the University of Minnesota’s participation in
national health promotion campaigns. These campaigns include: National
Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, The Great American Smokeout, Stress
Prevention Week (near finals), and Safe Spring Break Week.
- SNAP can present to your campus group. Request
a program.
- SNAP has fun and interactive programs on alcohol, tobacco, or drug abuse
prepared for your residence hall, Greek organization, or student group.
- On a national level, SNAP is affiliated with The
BACCHUS & GAMMA Peer
Education
Network, a premier collegiate health organization.
