Students can participate in various student-run programs at Boynton.

 
Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)
 

SHAC's Role

SHAC is a student advisory committee consisting of 20 students. Sixteen of these students represent a variety of student organizations and four students represent the at-large student body. SHAC has been in existence since 1991. SHAC members perform the following duties:

  • present student concerns and suggestions to the administration at Boynton Health Service and the University
     

  • participate in policy formation, program review, and program development at Boynton Health Service
     

  • provide input into the formal development of the student fee request, approve its final form, and participate in the student fee hearings
     

  • prioritize health care and health education issues for students
     

  • assist in improving and enhancing existing services and proposing new ones

SHAC's Accomplishments

SHAC actively works for the well-being of the University community. Past actions include:

  • recommending extended clinic hours one day per week;
  • bringing opinions regarding alcohol-sponsorship policy to the Vice-President for Student Development and Athletics;
  • evaluating and recommending co-payments for mental health services;
  • recommending spending capital reserves to connect Boynton by tunnel to Basic Sciences and Coffman Union;
  • recommending against performing abortion on campus;
  • recommendations related to various aspects of the University Sponsored
    Student Health Plan;
  • development and presentation of student fees request.
